Birding

I love leading bird walks. I teach birding and listening to birdsong as both a meditative practice and as a history lesson of colonization. My background in planning adds to my fascination with urban birding — a hobby that is inextricably tied to public space and natural resources.

I am an advocate of equitable birding that is open to BIPOC and all ages, genders, and sexual orientations, is ADA accessible, and can be enjoyed without judgement, expensive equipment, or car ownership.

I have had the great fortune of being able to bird around the world and have recorded over 600+ species since 2021, including twice participating in the annual Batumi Raptor Count based in Georgia at the edge of the Black Sea. I’m excited to continue expanding my knowledge of this hobby and my travels, and also make birding fun and contagious for others to enjoy!

My most recent avian-related project is Bird Cult Sacramento! I hold monthly outings and events throughout the Sacramento region and have worked with Sacramento Birding Alliance (formerly Sac Audubon), Effie Yeaw Nature Center, Two Rivers Cider, and have been interviewed by CapRadio and Abridged KVIE about bringing people together out in nature.
